CVAA Offers Osteoporosis Prevention Program to Swanton Seniors
Swanton, VT- The Champlain Valley Agency on Aging is sponsoring an Osteoporosis/Falls Prevention strength program in Swanton. This 12-week class begins August 24th and is open to all age 50 plus. It will be held Mondays & Wednesdays between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. in the Community Room at the School House Apartments on Church St.
If you have even fallen and had difficulty getting up or worry you wouldn’t be able to get up, this program may be for you. If your doctor has mentioned you may be at risk for or have Osteoporosis, this program is for you. Participants use hand and ankle weights to increase strength, muscle mass, and bone density. Participants perform these weight-bearing exercises seated or holding on to a chair for support. It is not an aerobics program.
Past participants’ report increased strength, flexibility, and mobility. They also cite improvements in mood. “I have much more energy and generally feel happier,” says one seventy plus lady. “I get up and down the stairs easily now, and I’m less afraid of falling,” says her friend. “I have arthritis in both knees, but now my joints are much more flexible.”
