Developed by researchers at Tufts University, the Strong Living Program helps older adults maintain their independence by increasing strength, muscle mass and bone density.

Balance exercises enhance agility and decrease the likelihood of falls; flexibility exercises are performed to enhance joint mobility and reduce the risk of injury. This is particularly effective for osteo-arthritis sufferers who will benefit from increased pain-free range of motion.

Exercises are done seated or standing with the use of a chair or wall for support. Classes meet 2 times a week for 12 weeks in community locations throughout Addison, Chittenden, Franklin and Grand Isle counties.
All participants are required to obtain a Medical Clearance for Exercise from their primary care physician. This is not an aerobics program.
CVAA Strong Living Programs are supported by grants from The Dwight Foundation, The Vermont Community Foundation, Fletcher Allen Health Care and RSVP of Chittenden County.
