This is the information we currently have about how people can get vaccinated against shingles. It is complicated because the Zostavax vaccination is only covered by Part D plans, so it has to be dispensed by a pharmacy. The Zostavax vaccination needs to be stored in special freezers, so doctors' offices and some pharmacies may not have the correct storage. Since it is a Part D item, it is also subject to co-pays and deductibles.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends the vaccine for all healthy people over the age of 60 but only about two percent have received it. Estimates are that the vaccine could cut incidence of the disease by half.
