CVAA Awarded a National Grant for March for Meals Campaign

The Champlain Valley Agency on Aging (CVAA)has been awarded a $2,500 grant from the Meals on Wheels Association of America (MOWAA) in recognition of the success of their 2006 March for Meals campaign. Over 150 organizations across the country applied for MOWAA grants , CVAA was awarded the Platinum Award for the 2nd year in a roll. Platinum is the highest recognition and largest grant available from MOWAA.

The March for Meals campaign is a national campaign, in which CVAA was a participant, to raise awareness of senior hunger, and to encourgae action on the part of the local community. Over 600 Mayors across the country took part in this campaign delivering Meals on Wheels for one day including local mayors from Winooski, Burlington, Vergennes, and St. Albans. Last year over 178,000 Meals on Wheels were delivered in Addison, Chittenden, Franklin, and Grand Isle counties.

The March for Meals campaign raised over $40,000 for the Champlain Valley Agency on Aging and included a wide range of events. Events included: the Driving Force Endurance Go Karting Race held with professional drivers in Brossard, Quebec, the 1st annual Race Against Hunger kids go karting race, the “Race Against the Clock” movie premiere documenting the senior games, a wine reception and live auction held the the ECHO at the Leahy Center for Lake Champlain, and a canister campaign.
