CVAA Volunteers Receive Governor’s Award for Outstanding Volunteer Community Service

Each spring, the Governor recognizes volunteers for their outstanding community service. These volunteers come from all over Vermont and volunteer for a wide variety of organizations and projects. CVAA is pleased to announce that several of our volunteers received this honor on April 25, 2009.

  • IBM Days of Caring Team led by Clark Hubbard. Once a year for the past four years, this team of volunteers has done yard work for a senior lady, donating 260 hours of free labor. They have trimmed hedges, weeded flower beds, spruced up the lawn, painted/repaired steps, and hauled things to the landfill. They even bought lunch for the senior when they bought lunch for themselves.
  • Susan Buonincontro. Susan is a volunteer who coordinates other Meals on Wheels volunteers and who oversees the operation of the Bristol Meals on Wheels program, doing the work that would otherwise be done by a paid CVAA staff member.
  • Alan Chandler. Alan is a handyman volunteer for CVAA, using his own tools, expertise, and sometimes his own money to provide home repairs to seniors who can not afford and desperately need this type of help.
  • Neighbor to Neighbor AmeriCorps Team at CVAA. This team is remarkable as a team and as individual high-performing members. Mia Brown, Casey Clark, Stacy Norford, Dawn Palladino, and Joanna Stein all go above and beyond what is expected of AmeriCorps members
  • Marie Leatherbarrow. Marie has been a Senior Companion for 7 years helping seniors live independently by providing companionship, help with grocery shopping, rides to the doctors, and other activities to assist homebound seniors.

Volunteers are an important, much-appreciated part of our staff and help us provide vital services that enhance the life of seniors in our community. We are happy to know that the Governor and other community members recognize and value the contribution that volunteers make to the quality of life in Vermont.
