Burlington, VT- Many seniors share their Meals on Wheels with their pets, which means that neither one is getting the appropriate nutrition. Feed Pets 2 is an initiative of the Champlain Valley Agency on Aging (CVAA) that hopes to address this situation. Feed Pets 2 is collecting pet food to distribute to area seniors in hopes that, by providing pet food for pets in addition to Meals on Wheels for seniors, both seniors and their pets will eat better, be healthier, and live longer.

CVAA is partnering with Lyric Theatre Company during the run of their upcoming production of Beauty and the Beast to collect pet food for distribution. Audience members are encouraged to bring pet food donations to the Flynn from April 10th through April 13th. There will be drop-off containers and more information available in the lobby of the Flynn during this time.

This is the second Feed Pets 2 collection that CVAA has organized. The first collection took place in December 2007. As a result, over 2,200 pounds of food were delivered to seniors for their pets in January 2008.

If you are unable to bring pet food donations to the Flynn, you can still participate in the program. Pet food can be dropped off at CVAA, 1 Mill Street, Third Floor, Chace Mill in Burlington between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. weekdays until April 18th.
