Burlington, VT- The Race Against Hunger to support the Champlain Valley Agency on Aging’s Meals on Wheels and Case Management Programs has raised over $30,000 to help seniors age with independence and dignity. The 1st Annual Kentucky Derby Day Gala raised over $7,500 to provide 1, 500 meals to seniors.

People sipped mint juleps while watching the Kentucky Derby on a large screen, and danced to the sounds of the Dixie Six. In addition to the race there was a highly competitive hat competition with people wearing their finest in the tradition of the Derby.

The Kentucky Derby Day Gala would not have been possible without the support of our many sponsors including: Shelburne Bay Living Community, Jon’s Darkroom & Frame Shop, the Gentes Family in honor of Vilas & Josephine Gentes, Armistead Senior Care. The Arbors, Price Chopper, Grippin, Donlon & Roche, Lantmans’ IGA, the Kinney Drug Foundation, Sally’s Flower Shop and Vermont Maturity Magazine.

Last year over 178,000 Meals on Wheels were delivered in Addison, Chittenden, Franklin, and Grand Isle counties. Over 2,500 clients are seen by CVAA Case Managers each year to help them access the services and benefits they are entitled to including fuel assistance, food stamps, Choices for Care, and Medicare Part D.
